Marge Taylor grew up on a ranch near Jordan, Montana, where rodeo and western design are a way of life. She’s been immersed in that world ever since. In 1951, at the age of nineteen, she started a chap-making business with her former husband, serving rodeo cowboys, working cowboys, and horse enthusiasts for thirteen years. At the same time Marge had a side business making patterns for saddle pants, all while
raising four children. In 1993 Marge founded Leather Legends. In addition to chaps, she creates clothing, home decor, and collectible angora chaps. Her leather and angora buckaroo chaps are decorated with hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds in red and black leather and a hand-painted cowboy on a bucking horse; the edges are hand-laced in kangaroo. A riding skirt and bolero patterned after an original belonging to Annie Oakley are made of buckskin with long fringe hand twisted to
resemble braidwork. A one-of-a-kind cape in caramel-colored wool features a figure inspired by traditional sand paintings, two rows of black beads, and hand-twisted buckskin fringe. The recipient of numerous awards, Marge’s designs have been displayed in the Cowboy Hall of Fame, seen at presidential inaugurations, and worn by rodeo queens, cutting competitors, champion cowboys, and working cowhands.
