By Western Hands™ (BWH) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and educating the public on the functional art of the American West. Our Design Center houses a museum, an internship program, and a premier legacy artisan gallery. We represent juried artisans specializing in woodworking, leatherwork, silver, and iron. From massive custom chandeliers to intricate silver spurs, our gallery showcases the highest level of Western craftsmanship, serving as a vital link between master artisans and discerning collectors.
Position Overview
We are seeking a thoughtful, motivated, and sales-minded individual to assist with the daily operations of our gallery. The ideal candidate isn’t just a caretaker of the space, but a storyteller who can articulate the value of handmade, legacy-quality work to our visitors. You will be the face of BWH, responsible for creating an inviting atmosphere while actively facilitating gallery sales and commissions. This role is perfect for someone who is professional, personable, and eager to help our non-profit thrive through successful artisan representation.
Key Responsibilities
Visitor Engagement & Sales: Welcome visitors and provide an informative gallery experience; actively engage with guests to share the history of our artisans and facilitate the sale of gallery pieces.
Artisan Advocacy: Develop a deep knowledge of our juried artists’ techniques and stories to better assist collectors and interior designers.
Exhibition & Merchandising: Assist with installing and maintaining exhibitions; ensure the gallery floor is curated and staged to maximize visual appeal and sales potential.
Events: Help coordinate gallery openings, artist talks, and VIP donor/collector events.
Administrative & POS: Manage the Point of Sale (POS) system with accuracy, handle sales transactions, coordinate shipping for sold works, and maintain organized records.
Outreach: Support promotion through newsletters and social media to drive foot traffic and online inquiries.
Space Stewardship: Maintain a pristine, professional gallery environment that reflects the high quality of the work on display.

The Museum & Gallery Volunteer will greet visitors entering the gallery and museum, answer questions, and ensure that the Design Center is clean and that visitors follow the rules. The Volunteer must be personable, knowledgeable about artists and exhibitions, and have the ability to remember details about each artist’s process, style, and biography.
The Museum & Gallery Volunteer may occasionally help with the physical installation of exhibits, operation of audio-visual equipment, and updates for the website and social media outlets. The Assistant may handle phone inquiries, help prepare purchase orders, and coordinate events.
The Museum & Gallery’s hours of operation are Monday – Saturday from 11:00am-6:00pm during the summer. Winter schedule and hours change.
