About this piece

The Wyoming Sunset Desk: A Masterpiece of Western Elegance

Bring the majestic beauty of the American West into your home or office with the Wyoming Sunset Desk. More than just a piece of furniture, this desk is a handcrafted work of art, a tribute to the spirit of the open range and the stunning vistas of Wyoming.

The desk’s design captivates the eye, featuring exquisite marquetry scenes reminiscent of a golden sunset over the mountains and the dynamic action of a classic rodeo.

  • Marquetry Inlay: Crafted from various fine woods, the inlaid panels depict three distinct Western scenes:
    • The central riser panel showcases a breathtaking mountain sunset, with golden rays illuminating the peaks.
    • The left pedestal panel features horses bathed in a radiant, sun-like glow.
    • The right pedestal panel captures a dramatic rodeo scene of a cowboy roping a bull, silhouetted against a setting sun.
  • Exotic Hardwoods: The desk is constructed from a harmonious blend of wenge and Caribbean rosewood. The rich, dark wenge provides a striking contrast and sophisticated frame for the warm, highly figured grain of the rosewood, creating a depth and richness that is truly unparalleled.

This desk is made for real life, combining timeless beauty with modern durability.

  • Superior Finish: The entire piece is finished with a clear, protective coating specifically formulated to resist damage. Go ahead and enjoy your beverage of choice, this finish is engineered to resist alcohol spills and water drops, ensuring the desk’s magnificent appearance endures for generations.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ron is originally from upstate New York, attended Utah State University, and after graduation worked as a maintenance mechanic for a local manufacturer. By 1982, Ron was making pieces for himself and his friends, in addition to a few clients. He continued to hone his techniques in finishing and joinery, and turned to the artistic aspects of furniture makers. Ron now lives and works outside of Preston, Idaho with his wife, son, and daughter. Surrounded by a forest of his own trees, Ron carries on a family tradition, his grandfathers were both cabinetmakers. Ron is inspired by the grandeur of the Mountain West, its wildlife, and beautifully figured wood. His style is a mix of influences including Sam Maloof and Wendell Castle, and he embraces a more contemporary aesthetic. As he says, he creates tomorrow’s heirlooms today.
