About this piece

This table is an original, one-of-a-kind functional masterpiece, entirely handcrafted and designed to tell a story of heritage, grit, and grace. It represents a striking fusion of two distinct worlds: the delicate precision of classical marquetry and the rugged, hand-forged spirit of the blacksmith’s anvil.

The tabletop showcases a breathtaking display of floral artistry. Using the ancient technique of marquetry, the artist inlaid slivers of natural wood to create a vibrant scene of blooming roses and trailing vines. The contrast between the light-colored center and the deep walnut-toned border creates a sophisticated frame for this “wooden tapestry,” finished to a silky sheen that invites touch and rewards close inspection.

Each wood species was carefully selected not only for its beauty, but for how it contributes to the realism and story of the piece. Materials from across the globe come together in a single work of art.

North America
The background features rare Spalted Quilted Maple, chosen for its dramatic grain and remarkable chatoyance, its surface seems to shift and glow as it’s viewed from different angles. Spalting occurs naturally when spores interact with the wood; when captured at just the right moment, it creates stunning figure, left too long, the wood becomes unusable.

Walnut Burl forms the stems of the roses, its organic grain adding movement and lifelike character.
Red-dyed Tulip Poplar was used for select flowers, while green-dyed Poplar creates the leaves.
Holly, prized for its natural white color, was chosen for its ability to be sand-shaded, edges gently toasted in hot sand—to add depth, shadow, and realism.

South America
Bloodwood, in its natural color, provides rich red floral accents.

Africa
Waterfall Bubinga, also in its natural tone, contributes warm, expressive blossoms.

England
English Sycamore, dyed green and red, was selected for its fine grain and luminous chatoyance.

Australia
Koto (a species of Eucalyptus) brings beautiful fine grain and glowing depth. Maroon and yellow dyed Koto was incorporated into additional floral elements.

This intricate marquetry required hundreds of hours to design and complete, every detail shaped by hand, every piece placed with intention.

Beneath the refined surface lies a base of extraordinary character. Authentic horseshoes have been heated, shaped, and welded into an intricate, vine-like structure that serves as both a sturdy foundation and a sculptural wine rack. The iron vines curve naturally to cradle favorite vintages, making the wine collection part of the artwork itself. Hand-painted metal leaves and sculptural red roses wind through the horseshoe trellis, echoing the floral design above. This substantial ironwork ensures the piece is as enduring as it is beautiful, a true heirloom designed to anchor a room with a legacy of quality.

Whether placed in a statement entryway to set a tone of rustic luxury or featured in a wine enthusiast’s lounge for intimate tastings, this table brings the romance of the stable and the beauty of the garden indoors. It stands as a celebration of reclaimed materials and refined craftsmanship, bringing the soul of the workshop into the heart of the home.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Brian’s life journey is a testament to the power of passion and precise craftsmanship. Though originally trained as a geologist, his deep love for horses quickly took the reins. For over 20 years, he has worked as a dedicated farrier, expertly shoeing a wide array of horse breeds across many disciplines. Beyond his farrier work, Brian has also made his mark in the show ring, personally breeding, training, and showing his own horses in reining and working cowhorse, earning multiple national awards. His commitment to the equestrian community is further cemented as the founder and president of the Colorado Plateau Horseman’s Hall of Fame.

This lifelong dedication to understanding equine anatomy—specifically the passion for sculpting hooves to best suit a horse’s conformation and needs—naturally led him to metal artistry. For over a decade, Brian has channeled this expertise into forging functional and decorative metalworks. He approaches every piece with the same attention to detail he gave a horse’s hoof, resulting in beautiful, flowing works of art. Brian specializes in creating unique, one-of-a-kind pieces and encourages clients to collaborate, allowing him to forge custom works with a personal flare that fits their specific vision and size.
